    • Abstract:
The article reports on research on immigration and border-crossing into the U.S. The author asserts that immigrants coming to the U.S. confront not only a physical border, but a culture that does not welcome them. Immigrants interviewed claimed to be seeking escape from poor economic conditions and political unrest in their native lands. They expressed dismay at anti-immigrant sentiment and groups present in the U.S. Many Latino immigrants to the U.S. join Latino enclaves because broader U.S. culture does not welcome them, the research found. Immigrants coming to the U.S. seeking economic opportunity often find themselves struggling in low-wage jobs, according to the research.
