Plain is a member of the Chippewa First Nation of Aamjiwnang, a community surrounded by various chemical plants which serve as the primary collection of petro-chemical industries across Canada. A certain study reveals that 62 photochemical plants in the area spewed more than 131,000 tonnes of air pollutants in 2005.
