    • Abstract:
The author reflects on the increasing public awareness regarding autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She suggests that the increase in ASD has led to the mobilization of parents and researchers to understand the causes of the disorder and its prevention, but that awareness regarding the nongenetic and environmental factors of ASD are still lagging. Examples of several epidemiological studies dealing with nongenetic and environmental research are presented.
