The article discusses the significance of autoantibodies in diagnosing thyroid disorders in the U.S. It states that thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb) may help predict hypothyroidism. In relevance, thyroid antibody tests may assess in equivocal situations such as normal radioiodine study in hyperthyroidism or evaluating the cause of hypothyroidism when infiltrative disorders are suspected.
