The article discusses the expert panel report (EPR-3) guidelines released by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) in the U.S. EPR-3 guidelines provide the most comprehensive evidence-based guidance for the diagnosis and management of asthma. It outlines the reform EPR-3's key recommendations to encourage widespread implementation by family physicians including the risk of the disease, severity and importance of spirometry results.
