- Abstract:
The article describes the music career of singer Amy Winehouse, whose second album release "Back to Black," has sold over 10 million copies. The singer, who has won five Grammy Awards, borrowed much of her stage craft and performing style from African-American girl group singers such as Diana Ross of The Supremes. The author analyzes the elements Winehouse appropriated from black singers from the jazz era of the 1940s to the pop era of the 1990s, and how her managers shaped her career.
