    • Abstract:
The profile of Daughtry by Daniel Bergner (July 20) sheds much-needed light on the Democratic Party's courtship of religious believers. The party is revving up for the election, but at what cost? Sprinkling speeches with Scripture and compromising traditional Democratic tenets is not the way to go about it. The Democratic National Committee would be better off encouraging the party's Faith in Action group to educate religious communities about how Democratic values already jibe with religious values and to cast the separation between church and state as what it always has been, a means to protect the rights of the faithful.
