    • Abstract:
The article reports on the discovery of a new molecule that helps combat renal cancer and avoid surgery to remove the organ by researchers from Stanford University School Medicine in Palo Alto, California. The von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) tumour suppresor gene slows tumour growth in humans but is ineffective in kidney tumour cells. The STF-62247 molecule kills cancer cells when the VHL gene is broken. It is harmless to most cells in the body but toxic to renal cancer.
