- Abstract:
The article reports on molecular epidemiological research into the damaging effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) on human DNA, focusing on the creation of PAH-DNA adducts in the offspring of pregnant women who inhale polluted air. These adducts may change the functions of genes that promote or suppress disease and are thought to lead to developmental decrements in fetuses exposed to them.
