The article presents a study on the patterns of stress expressed through enamel hypoplasia prevalence and adult stature among middle to final Jomon period foragers from Japan. It states that it is possible that stature between the eastern and western Jomon are similar because the western Jomon experienced catch up growth after childhood stress episodes. However, decreases in stature through time in western Japan are connected to increased exposure to chronic infection and dietary stress.
