      The article offers a look at the role of the U.S. National Library of Medicine in the field of biomedical communications in the country. The National Library of Medicine was mandated by the Congress to assist in the development of medical and related sciences through collecting, disseminating and exchange of scientific information. And since its establishment in 1879, the library has provided leadership, support and assistance to all the medical libraries across the U.S. It has also served as a national and international source and storage of published medical science literature.
