The article offers information on the new aeroengine core technology (Newac) project in Europe. It states that the project concentrates on core technologies rather than previous European research efforts that focused on low-pressure (LP) turbines. It is inferred that the initiative is aimed at cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 6 percent and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by 16 percent relative to 2000-era engines, such as the Rolls-Royce Trent 700.
