The article presents information about the book "Tortured Confessions: Prisons and Public Recantations in Modern Iran," by Ervand Abrahamian. The book reports the Revolutionary Tribunals executing 2,6665 political prisoners--seven times the number of royalists killed in the previous sixteen months. The executions totaled 7, 943 by June 1985. Most of the victims belonged to the Mujahedin and the rest to a number of Marxist, Maoist, Socialist and liberal groups. As Abrahamian's meticulous research reveals, the overwhelming majority of those executed in the eighties were high school and college graduates.
