    • Abstract:
The article looks at the concerns raised by government officials in at least four U.S. states regarding the levels of lead in synthetic-turf fields commonly used in college sports. Legislation in Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York would ban the installation of the turf until those states completed health studies on the ground-up tires used for the turfs, according to policy journal "Stateline.org." Bills in California and Connecticut call for studies to determine the environmental effects of synthetic turf. In April 2008, health regulators in New Jersey closed an athletics field at the College of New Jersey after samples of its synthetic turf showed high levels of lead.
