    • Abstract:
The article reports on a study published in "Diabetes Care" that found rates of women who had diabetes before pregnancy doubled to 2% from 1999 to 2005. As stated, the findings are troubling because diabetes increases the risk of miscarriage and birth defects and causes long-term ill effects on women. The study was conducted on 175,249 women of the Kaiser Permanente Southern California health care-network. These findings also match with other studies that women are developing diabetes at a younger age and is related to increasing rates of obesity.
