    • Abstract:
The article reports that according to a group of chief executive officers (CEOs), the U.S. Congress should restore funding to three federal agencies that conduct basic research. The CEOs say that it must keep the promises made in the America Competes Act of 2007. The Technology CEO Council, a group consisting of the CEOs of International Business Machines Corp., Dell, Hewlett-Packard and six other firms, has requested the Congress to increase funding for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Bruce Mehlman, the executive director of the group, says that funding for federal research is important for the economy of the country.
