    • Abstract:
A chapter of the book "Child Welfare for the Twentieth Century" is presented. The chapter discusses the involvement of African American fathers with children in the U.S. child welfare system. Information are presented which help bridge the gap in the understanding of African American noncustodial fathers. The experience of fathers in the child welfare system is addressed using a study conducted on noncustodial fathers in Wisconsin from 1999 to 2001 and findings from the study on permanency for fathers conducted by Urban Institute.
