    • Abstract:
      A case of Hearing loss induced by action organic solvents (xylene, toluene), is discussed. The case is a subject whom was assessed for study purposes as part of an important research project on occupational diseases. The subject is a Medical Technologist who works at a Department of Histopathology and Cytodiagnostic. Due to the profession of the subject, who has acquired solvent-induced hearing loss, the authors of the present article consider an important issue to create awareness of among other persons working in similar environments. This with the ultimate aim to stimulate among professionals of the area, the generation of preventive actions against solvents in order to protect their health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

      Se pone en conocimiento de la comunidad un caso de Hipoacusia inducida por acción de solventes orgánicos (xilol, toluol), que forma parte de una investigación importante sobre patología ocupacional, pero que por el hecho de afectar directamente a un Tecnólogo Médico que se desempeña en un Servicio de Histopatología y Citodiagnóstico, se considera relevante ponerla de manifiesto con el objetivo de alertar a los pares que se encuentren en iguales o similares condiciones de actividad laboral, para que tomen las medidas y resguardos necesarios respecto de su condición de trabajo y/o de salud.
