    • Abstract:
The article analyzes some options and possible developments routes faced by the televisual media in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) states during their transition to a mixed-market economy. The first telecenter was completed in the Shabalovk region of Moscow in 1938, signifying the start of the development of a television broadcasting infrastructure in the USSR. The Media Law passed in July 1990 guaranteed citizens and their representative organizations freedom of expression in journalism and the creative arts, broad rights of access to information and the means of its mass dissemination, as well as specified the obligations of the authorities in respect of these rights.
