- Abstract:
The article reports on efforts within the computer industry to improve energy conservation. In 2005, the computers of the world used 123 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, due in part to the air-conditioning needed to keep them from overheating. For every kilowatt-hour used for computing in a data center, another one is required to cool the servers. Research on minimizing such energy usage is described.
