      A veteran Newark police detective was charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl from West Orange repeatedly during a span of four years, according to the Essex County prosecutor's office. The detective, Vernon Parker, a resident of Hillside who has been a police officer in Newark for more than 10 years, surrendered late Friday and was charged with eight counts of aggravated sexual assault and four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, said Paul Loriquet, a spokesman for the prosecutor.
