      The article discusses several topics and objectives concerning the scientific investigation of social communications in Latin America. In the 1960s, the CIESPAL began their own research into journalism and communications in the region. It wasn't until the 1970s, though, when these types of investigations began to grow as a verified scientific field. Within the same decade, these investigations began to denounce the close relationship between the media in Latin America and political and commercial forces from the United States.
