      The article examines the functionality of the carriers' scene in Act 2, scene 1 of the play "1 Henry IV," by William Shakespeare. It offers a description the scene and discusses the relationship of comic scenes to plot in Shakespearean drama. It discusses the role of carriers in early modern English society as recognizable figures responsible for transporting letters, goods, and people between the city of London, England and locations throughout the country. It presents an explanation of the relationships between individual carriers and the inns they frequented and provides examples of carriers in literature of the era. The author discusses the carrier scene as a means of highlighting the vulnerability of ordinary citizens to corrupt men in positions of power.
