    • Abstract:
The article focuses on the registration scheme applied by Network Solutions Inc. (NSI) for Internet domains in the U.S. It notes that the company had sole control over the top-level domains, including .com, .net and .org, thus the public needs the firm's permission and support of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) should they wish to use those domains. It also shows that some domains were already taken although not but only locked by NSI, and should the public wants, the company has a price set for them. Furthermore, the firm's overpriced registration fee, which is $34.99, is questionable as it is about four or five times what most registrars charge. Moreover, the ICANN is also suggested to be responsible for the unethical practice of NSI.
