      The author comments on the status of cesarean delivery from 1970 to 1995. He mentions some of the changes in the cesarean rate including the number of cesareans performed in the U.S. in 1970 and in 1990. He notes the increase in the use of electronic fetal monitoring machines by women who give birth in hospitals in the country. He also cites the increase in the use of epidural anesthesia as one of the major turning points in the history of childbirth.
