ECOLOGICAL LITERACY: WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?

The article looks at the efficiency of the pedagogy of education for sustainability or ecological literacy. Ecological literacy means knowing the social metabolism with nature, the repercussions of the impacts of the ecosystems on social relations, redesigning class and power structures. Education for sustainable life promotes understanding of how ecosystems sustain life. Concepts such as the Theory of Systems, cycles, flows, nesting systems are applied in ecological literacy. It also applies to networks engaged in coordinated planning projects. In the Center of Ecological Literacy in California, the efficiency of ecological literacy was found to be efficient with respect to imbuing a scientific character into their practices.
