    • Abstract:
The article looks at the critical issues around the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and education. The author highlights the achievement of gender parity in primary and secondary education. He then describes the current situation that Goal 2 sets out to transform: the number of out-of-school children, the high percentage of girls within the figure and the number of countries where the access to education depends on availability to pay fees. He also highlights the role of civil society for changing the reality and shares examples of concrete involvement with specific results. Moreover, he focuses on the report of the MDG Task Force on Education and Gender Equality and makes recommendations for making progress on the basis of an e-discussion convened by ActionAid.
