- Abstract:
The article focuses on the Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GPELF), a strategy that aims to control lymphatic filariasis (LF). LF is transmitted by mosquitos and caused by parasitic worms, and is considered as one of the six major tropical diseases that are potentially eradicable. GPELF involves the control of the transmission through individual patient management. Under the program, people living in filariasis endemic areas are given diethylcarbamazine (DEC).
