    • Abstract:
The article reports on the problems regarding the inadequate protection of a driver's identification system in the U.S. According to the Department of Transportation's (DOT) inspector general, the agency is not protecting adequately the personal information in the database regarding the problem drivers. The National Driver Register (NDR) contains data such as names, dates of birth and sex. In addition, similar controls are not being applied when the data is transmitted to users via an external network. Further, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has responded with a statement that states DOT officials are reviewing a draft interconnection security management which requires the organization to encrypt data.
