    • Abstract:
The article reports on the move of the International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) in the U.S. to compete against Microsoft Corp.'s Microsoft Office dominance. IBM released its Lotus Symphony, an open-source desktop application suite, following its membership with OpenOffice.org. The new software is a somewhat a lookback to a previous Lotus version from Lotus Development Corp., which it acquired in 1995. According to Rob Koplowitz of Forrester Research Inc., IBM's move with other prominent companies to support OpenOffice.org's technology implicates a credible threat to Office.
