    • Abstract:
The article discusses the techniques used by some photographers in taking pictures of the Hoysalesvara Temple of Halebid in India. Captain Linnaeus Tripe used a Petzval lens to photograph architectural details without distortion in 1859. The Madras Government accepted the offer of Captain E. D. Lyon to photograph the temple on ten by 12 inch collodion negatives in 1868. Dr. W. H. Pigou used glass negatives for the six by eight inch photographs to capture detail effectively despite the smaller format. Richard Banner Oakeley brought new camera angles and framing to bear on the Hoysalesvara Temple.
