      The article discusses the history of English drama. By the time of Norman conquest, Miracle plays and Mystery plays were already established in France and found its way into England. Morality plays marked the next stage in the growth of drama in England. The characters in moral plays were personified abstractions. From these plays, interludes were developed which was frequently used for dramatic purpose. Interludes are short dramatic piece of satire. Elizabethan drama sprang from liturgy of the Churches.
