      This article examines the use of patches for transmitting medications through the skin. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a patch called Exelon which is for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The patch market is estimated to be more than $3 billion. Common uses for this medical delivery system are for motion sickness, chronic pain, depression, diabetes and smoking cessation.
