- Abstract:
The article presents information on Yvetta Pokorny, a 54-year old senior wild-animal keeper at Bronx Zoo in New York City. She is in charge of large birds. In the late 1980s, Pokorny fled Communist Czechoslovakia, where she had worked for a large-animal vet. Her pet project is the endangered Lesser Adjutant Stork, which had never bred in captivity. But under the care of Pokorny's team, the zoo's pair has produced nine healthy chicks in the past 15 years.
