The article reports on the Shill Score, a computer program developed to detect fraudulent bidding in online auctions. The features of the program include the ability to observe a series of auctions for the common signs of shilling. According to the article, shill bidding is a practice in which bids are introduced into an auction on the seller's behalf with the purpose of artificially stimulating the price. Suspension from online auction sites, fines and jail are penalties for shilling.
