    • Abstract:
The article discusses the intention of many Broadway stage moguls to cater to the tastes of tween and teen girls in order to enlarge their audiences. The article mentions that stage critics had panned "Wicked" when it opened, but is has done well, in part, because of young women who appreciate the themes and buy much of the merchandise. Mention is also made of "Hairspray," "The Color Purple," and "The Pirate Queen," showing how they appeal to girls' sense of empowerment.
