      The article examines a grim milestone for situation comedy television programs and the broadcast networks. Programs that debuted in the 2004-2005 television season are now eligible for syndication, the largest profit center for their producers, but no comedies that debuted that season remain on the air. No comedy programs will become eligible for syndication in 2008, either. Networks are renewing low-rated dramas such as "Numb3rs" and "Veronica Mars" to fill the void in their syndication inventories.
