    • Abstract:
The article presents information on the status of higher education in Gaza, as of April 2007. Due to Israel's security measures, initiated after the start of the Palestinian intifada in September 2000, college students in Gaza are limited in choice of universities, programs of study, and opportunities for study abroad. Sari Bashi, director of the Israeli human rights groups Gisha, notes that blocking access to higher education violates Palestinian rights and harms Israel's interests by denying students the skills they need to build a prosperous and peaceful society. Students' attempts to obtain permission to travel through Israel to access education have been unsuccessful, and Israeli officials say that Palestinians have only themselves and their government's support of violence to blame.
