    • Abstract:
The article discusses scientific finds from excavations at the site of the colonial Jamestown Settlement in Jamestown Island, Virginia. The Jamestown Rediscovery project, which is led by archaeologist William M. Kelso, has already excavated nearly half of the site, despite the fact that they are a small private enterprise. Their finds have revealed that the Jamestown settlers were not lazy and inept, as is commonly believed, but survived tenaciously and put real effort into the colony until the tobacco boom.
