The article focuses on the work of the Canadian Model Forest Network, which consists of over 600 partner organizations. The author discusses the challenges to environmental stewardship of Canada's forests. Changes to the processes that forestry companies utilize in their production sites is discussed. The article describes in detail approaches to landscape management that model forests help to explore. Sustainable land management in Canada's boreal forest in Newfoundland, Manitoba and in the Lake Abitibi region, is discussed. Efforts to protect biodiversity in Canada's forests are also mentioned.
