    • Abstract:
The author reflects on resolving the dilemma between idealism and realpolitik. He wishes some of those who constantly criticize America's efforts and the judgment of U.S. President George W. Bush would ask themselves the question whether they would like to live in a world where the U.S. sits idly by and lets things happen. He states that America is fundamentally and instinctively idealistic. He asserts that it is difficult to exercise authority in large parts of the world.
