The article reports on the significant applications offered by geographic information system (GIS) utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite technology to business enterprises in the U.S. The GPS technology is equipped with an outdoor technology application including mapping, environmental monitoring, land and facilities management, emergency planning, and transportation systems design. The increasing use of geospatial technology in various fields has become evident in health care centers, corporations and government agencies. They include the Loma Linda University Medical Center, Caterpillar Inc., and the Dover Police Department.
