    • Abstract:
The article presents highlights of global temperature conditions in 2006. The author said that the global surface temperature for the year was the fifth warmest in the 127-year in situ record. There was a weak cold phase episode of La Niña present at the beginning of 2006. It persisted until March before giving way to El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions. ENSO events affected the global temperature via the storage and release of great quantities of heat in the Pacific.
