    • Abstract:
The article provides information on the results of a study conducted by doctoral student Marc Vermulst and colleagues on whether mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (mtDNA) mutations in the energy-producing parts of cells can cause premature aging. The mutation has been chartered in normal mice and mitochondrial mutator mice. It was found that the mutator mice engineered to have 500 times more than mtDNA mutations did not acquire osteoporosis, balding and reduced fertility.
