    • Abstract:
The article discusses a study which examined the performance of subjects of differing anxiety levels on a word association task under two instructional conditions. The study employed three measures of anxiety such as the true-false Test Anxiety scale, Bendig's revision of the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale and the Lack of Protection scale. Students in introductory psychology courses at the University of Washington were involved in the study. The researcher found that the high anxious groups given the experimental instructions showed lower commonality scores and greater discrepancies in response between the two word association test administrations.
