- Abstract:
The article focuses on cancer chemotherapy research. A new chemotherapy treatment targets epigenetic phenomena, those changes in genetic expression that facilitate the growth of cancer cells. Research related to molecular "switches" such as methylation and acetylation, which turn genes on and off, is discussed. Comments from Paul Marks, president emeritus of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, regarding the goals of epigenetic research are presented. INSET: GETTING PERSONALIZED.
