    • Abstract:
The article discusses setbacks in stem cell research. It was discovered that results reported by scientist Woo Suk Hwang about the first human embryonic stem cells from cloned embryos were faked. U.S. President George W. Bush vetoed the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005. These setbacks led scientists to focus on new methods of creating stem cell lines without destroying embryos. The work of biotechnology company Advanced Cell Technology on creating stem cells is discussed.
