This article focuses on a report released by the Association of State and Territorial Health officials which says federal funding designed to help states shore up emergency preparedness is leading to overall improvements in health infrastructure. The report uses case studies from 12 states to illustrate how preparedness has improved in the wake of new funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Health Resources and Services Administration. The report also highlights Missouri's efforts in preparing schools for health emergencies, New York City's Emergency Data Exchange Network designed to allow different agencies to share environmental health monitoring data and the Ohio Department of Health's Web-based reporting system for Clostridium difficile infections.
