- Abstract:
The article provides an overview of food contamination in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 76 million cases of food poisoning occur yearly. Most cases of food poisoning are attributed to eating contaminated produce, beef, poultry, raw eggs, and seafood, and dishes prepared with such ingredients. Diseases that result from microbial contamination are mentioned. An explanation on how food poisoning can occur is offered. Also noted is a major recall of certain peanut butter products in early 2009.
