- Abstract:
The article discusses the medical use of robots, which were first used to hold a fixture next to the head for a surgeon to conduct a neurological procedure. Subsequently, robots such as the Robodoc from ISS, USA, and Caspar from URS, Germany, were used in orthopaedic surgery to machine bones in knee and hip replacement. The robotic programmer over time has become as important as the surgeon, who in many cases wields only an emergency "off" button. The Acrobot constrains a surgeon to accurate cutting in a defined area. The da Vinci robot from Intuitive Surgical Inc. is used for heart and soft-tissue surgery.
